Licence office closed indefinitely
The Department of Labour closed the Emalahleni main licence office due to safety concerns.
The Emalahleni Licence Office will not open its doors before safety concerns are addressed.
The Department of Employment and Labour confirmed that the office is deemed unsafe.
“The office was closed due to the unsafe conditions of the facility that the inspector observed during an Occupational Health and Safety inspection. The reasons for the closure were outlined on the issued enforcement notices by the inspector.”

He added that the office will resume operations once the conditions that threaten the health and safety of the employees and public have been minimised to the satisfaction of the inspector.
Meanwhile, there is no word on the way forward for motorists wanting to collect their drivers’ licences or register vehicles.
The satellite office situated at the Emalahleni Fire Department is operating, but it only caters for licence renewals.
