The community of Ackerville is mourning one of their beloved matriarchs, Emma Mtsweni, who passed away on July 29.

Born and raised in Lynnville, Mtsweni, who died at the age of 78, became known for running the Lindokuhle Pre-School that continue to shape generations of children.

“Many of her students called her Mem. The name stayed with her and is also lovingly used by her family to this day,” said her granddaughter, Nondumiso Nkosi.

Beyond the classroom, Mem was a devoted member of the Apostolic Faith Mission in Ackerville.

“She loved the Lord with all her heart and was deeply passionate about her family and community,” Nkosi said.

She was also a Sunday school teacher, an intercessor, and part of a group of women called the Combined Ladies Movement.

Nkosi said Mtsweni will be remembered for the kindness and warmth she brought to everyone around her, as she had a way of making people feel comfortable and was always ready to share a laugh with them.

Family and her devotion to Christ were among the things she valued most.

“Her faith was an important part of who she was, and she taught those around her the importance of prayer and trusting in God,” Nkosi said.

As their final words of goodbye to their loved one, the family said, “Thank you for your teachings, Mem. Even through your journey with dementia, you continued to teach us kindness. You taught us how to suffer well, how to love, and how to pray. You will forever be loved and remembered.”
