Mercedes-Benz adds more dream cars to their line up

Mercedes-Benz has added to what it calls its “dream car series,” which already includes the CLA 45 AMG, the E-Class coupé and cabriolet, the SLK sports car, the SL roadster, the CLS four-door coupé, the SLS AMG coupé and the SLS AMG Roadster models. The newest models to be added to this range are the E 250 CDI coupé, the SL 400 AMG line and the GLA 45 AMG.

More affordable E-Class

There is now a more attainable and economical E-Class coupé variant in the form of the E 250 CDI. This frugal model is aimed at the younger buyer and makes use of a 2 143cc turbo-diesel engine, producing 150kW/500Nm that emits just 129g/km of CO₂.

New SL400

The SL 400 AMG line model ushers in a specification seen on the smaller SLK, whereby all model derivatives come standard with the AMG Sport Line trim. The SL 400 shares its platform with the SL 500 with standard suspension that includes Adaptive Damping System Dynamic AMG styling, evident in the front, rear and side skirts. The SL is powered by a V6 Biturbo engine with 245kW/480Nm, which is mated to a 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox. The SL 400 Sport will be fitted with 19” AMG 5-spoke alloy wheels as well as AMG front and rear aprons and side skirts, a boot lid spoiler in body colour and sports suspension. On the inside, a host of eye-catching features include an instrument cluster with a chequered flag design, a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel with silver gear shift paddles and perforated leather in the grip areas, plus brushed light aluminium trim and AMG floor mats.

There’s also a new AMG in the local line-up, the GLA 45 AMG with its 265kW/450Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged motor. With claimed fuel consumption of 7.5 litres/100km with CO2 emissions of 175g/km, this kerb-hopper will go from 0 -100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 250km/h. There’s a special “Edition 1” version of this ballistic SUV which, for R75 000 adds the AMG Night package with chromed tailpipe trim elements, AMG Aerodynamics package, 20-inch AMG 10-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in matte black with AMG hub caps featuring a centre lock. The colour red, highlights the radiator grille and exterior mirrors, side foil film and red-painted brake callipers. Inside the Edition 1 we see AMG Performance seats, AMG Edition 1 design trim, AMG Performance steering wheel with AMG aluminium shift paddles, contrasting red top-stitching and E-Select lever with embossed AMG emblem and master key with AMG emblem and an “Edition 1” badge on the AMG drive unit.

CLS facelift on the way

Mercedes-Benz has also announced that a face-lifted model of the CLS four-door coupé is set to arrive soon. The updated model will have features like Multibeam LED headlamps, a nine-speed automatic transmission as well as a new multimedia system. I will bring you more on this new model soon.
