Tell me sweet little lies

The reason why I despise lies and those who attempt to feed them to me is because I, myself have been a master fabricator.

The reason why I despise lies and those who attempt to feed them to me is because I, myself have been a master fabricator.

The one thing I admire about animals is that they cannot flat-out lie. Sure they can shift and make things appear different but an untruth cannot be uttered by them. Like when Buddy my puppy, along with Ava our cat left the house in ruins after attacking what seemed like a flock of pigeons and me asking them who it was I could immediately see it was him. Humans on the other hand, boy can we lie.

We can lie about almost anything at the drop of a hat and without ever having to lie; we just kind of do it. Men can lie about affairs, women can lie about pants size and children can lie about who threw the rock through the window; we are all capable of lying. The turning point comes in when you decide to go for broke with your lie or come clean.

When you decide to lie, there is always at least one reason for it, no matter how small and that reason can be grounded in insecurities, malice or anxiety even and the reason will almost always just make sense to the person that is lying. We have all been lied to at one stage in our lives and every day we hear politicians working hard at making us believe ‘their’ truth and not ‘the’ truth.

Given all of that, it’s not the actual lie that irks me; it’s them underestimating the intelligence of the person they are lying to. See I believe if you should lie, do it so that nobody can ever doubt your lie but also remember that it will always, unequivocally catch up to you.

I have had friends that lied to me as I have lied to them before (about a horse being in Alberton and me having to fetch it) but if you cannot take them confronting you about the lie and just delete them from your lives without thinking you are the one with the problem, then you my friend are doomed to run around in your own little fantasy world with characters you have created in your mind and no real person left to play in your story.

It feels like I lie to Buddy when I tell him that he looks like he lost weight, but it’s just a little white lie.
