Recycling eyeglasses is a project, which residents of Emalahleni put in all their weight behind.
I have received hundreds of spectacles, which will make their way to the recycling centre.
Lions Operation Brightsight has been running since 1978. Prescriptions are filled as requests are received from Lions Clubs in Lions Multiple District 410. The centre receives recycled eyeglasses from South Africa, Germany, Scandanavia, United Kingdom, and Australia. Full-time staff cleans, grades and stocks recycled spectacles.
Often, two pairs of eyeglasses are supplied, one for reading and one for distance. If an appropriate prescription is not in stock, Lions Operation Brightsight will purchase new lenses to satisfy the request. The centre is currently working on a major eye screening project in conjunction with the South African Optometric Association.
You made a difference in someone’s life and I thank you for that.
