Bhekisisa aims for the Comrades Marathon

Bhekisisa Dladla (24) started his running while at primary school and has been running for the past years.

Bhekisisa started school at Nkonjane Combined School and moved to Elukhanyisweni Secondary School where he continued with running. He joined the Nkangala Athletic Academy in 2003.

In 2007 he was placed in position 13 during the South African championships held in Bloemfontein. In 2010 during the national championships he received a bronze medal during the cross country held again in Bloemfontein. He has participated in cross-country championships held Potchefstroom and in Durban.

After his meeting with Emmanuel Mabaso, coach and mentor of Nkangala Athletic Academy he has never looked back. They met during a track and field event held in 2002 in Cape Town.

“I want to see my self running in the major marathons, like the London Marathon, Boston Marathon and Comrades Marathon and breaking records in those races. Long distances are my specialists,” noted Bhekisisa.
Bhekisisa said as club members they were getting a lot of support and encouragement from the club. He encouraged other young athletics to join the club and learn discipline, teamwork and life skills in the club.

Bhekisisa stays with his mother after his father passed away two years ago. He also a member of the club board as a deputy chairman.

On Saturday, January 25 during the Shadunka 5-in-1 race Bhekisisa came second in the 15km race.

His message to other young people is that they must abstain from drugs, be focused and involve themselves sports.
