Charl makes his name known

Charl, as he is known, is an up and coming performer in eMalahleni who has steadily been making a name for himself over the past year-and-a-half.

Since he was very young he loved singing, and he has always had a passion for it. However he was very close to his cousin. It was always her dream for him to see Charl become an artist.

She sadly passed away of cystic fibrosis and that is when he decided to start singing again and eventually released his new CD in her honour called ‘Jy is my Engel’.

He is fairly new to the scene in South Africa, however his talent has shone through with several shows booked over the next couple of months.

One such performance was at Brazen Head, Ogies, and a show in Pretoria where he will perform as part of a group called Symphony 3, alongside his aunt who first taught him to sing at a young age.

However it is still difficult for Charl to juggle his passion for singing with other aspects of his life.
He was explaining that after his show every second Wednesday at the Brazen Head which finishes at 23:00, he would only get into bed at 01:00 and have to be up at 06:00 again for school.

There are many people who have supported him in his singing career such as his parents, his aunt and Will Jordan, who helped him produce his first two songs of his album.
“I want to thank Will Jordan. He has really helped and supported me with my singing,” said Charl.

The songs on his CD are mostly covers of songs that are special to him as well as his niece. He has a personal connection to every song.
Charl’s hope for the future is to be part of the music industry. “Even if I lose my voice, I want to be in the music industry, either as a sound engineer, or a music teacher or a producer but music is my life,” concluded Charl. Check out his Facebook page for more details.
