27 goats vanish overnight in Masakhane
The owner stresses that two weeks later, there’s no sign of her entire herd.
Masakhane resident, Johanna Shongwe, has been left in disbelief after all 27 of her goats were stolen overnight.
According to Shongwe, it has now been two weeks since the theft, yet there is still no sign of her goats.
“I am still in shock. I wake up every day hoping for news, but nothing has come,” she said.
The goats, which were all fitted with ear tags, had distinctive markings. According to Shongwe, most were dominantly white, with several showing brown patches around their necks and heads. Two were entirely brown, while the other two were a mix of black and white.
Despite these identifiers, Shongwe fears the goats may be difficult to trace.
“I still can’t believe this. I can’t believe why they would just target mines,” Shongwe softly said.
She further stated that livestock theft remains a pressing issue in the area. The SAPS has previously raised concerns about the growing trend, warning communities to remain vigilant.
