eMalahleni gents strip down for male health awareness this coming Friday

Join local gents as they run through town to shine a light on prostate and testicular cancer awareness.

You will not be imagining things when you spot a group of men running through town in purple Speedos on October 23.

The group of brave runners is taking to the streets for a vital cause as part of the 2026 Hollard Daredevil Run.

Joining thousands of men nationwide, local participants are raising funds and awareness for Cansa and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Last year marked a significant surge in attendance, drawing schools, returning runners, corporate teams, and dozens of first-time participants.

“Our goal this year is to raise the bar even more! We dare you to join us,” said the event organisers.

Behind the laughter and flashing purple lies a serious health reality. Prostate cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among South African men, while testicular cancer is the most common cancer affecting young men aged 15 to 49.

Caught early, both cancers are highly treatable. A simple two-minute self-examination or a quick prostate-specific antigen blood test can save a life.

“To get men testing, we have to get them talking. We need them to realise that checking your health is essential. That’s why we run,” the organisers added.

This year’s local Daredevil Run takes place on October 23 at 14:00, starting at Centre De La Vie.
