WATCH: Payment changes at toll plazas
The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) has introduced a tap-and-go service at selected toll booths in the country
Motorists should expect changes to payment options at South African National Roads Agency (Sanral)-operated toll plazas as of this month.
The roads agency has introduced a tap-and-go service at selected tolls.
“As of 1 December, magnetic swipe cards will no longer work at toll booths.
“But don’t worry, Sanral is rolling out Tap & Go, letting you pay with your bank card or mobile device using quick, secure Europay, Mastercard and Visa (EMV) contactless technology,” said Sanral in a statement.
Simply tap your card or mobile device at the EMV reader outside the booth.
It’s the same tap you use in stores, now on South Africa’s toll roads.

Sanral says the contactless bank card will ‘work perfectly at participating toll plazas’.
Here’s how:
* Look for Tap & Go signs
* Card ready
* Window down
* Align with reader
* Tap
* Wait for “Approved”
* Drive off when the boom lifts
* No paper slip needed
No tag? No problem.
Use your contactless bank card with Tap&Go at participating toll plazas.
* Spot the signs
* Card ready
* Tap
* Wait for “Approved”
* GoQuick. Secure. No slips.#SANRAL #TapAndGo #TollPayments pic.twitter.com/Im7jhnIKYw
