This young police officer is helping protect the most vulnerable in Zululand communities every day.

KwaHlabisa-born Warrant Officer Sinazo Zwane (29) is a ballistic analyst attached to the SAPS Forensic Science Laboratory in KZN.

Having joined SAPS as part of the first batch of Project 10 000 recruits in 2022, she successfully completed her Basic Police Training at the Mthatha SAPS Academy.

This set her on an inspiring journey of service and professional development.

Placed at Inanda Police Station, Zwane served as a Youth Crime Prevention Desk coordinator and school coordinator, placing her at the forefront of initiatives that protect and empower the youth.

Working closely with stakeholders, Zwane conducted crime awareness programmes in schools and communities, as well as education about GBV, bullying, gangsterism, substance abuse and general crime prevention.

In recognition of her commitment to protecting children, Zwane was invited to represent the SAPS at the Assupol Community Trust Early Childhood Development Indaba in 2025.

Taking a scientific turn

She has also furthered her academics, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry, sending her career in a highly specialised direction.

Zwane was recently promoted to the SAPS Forensic Science Laboratory in KZN where she serves as a ballistics analyst.

Here, she applies scientific knowledge and analytical skills to assist investigations involving firearms and other violent crimes.

This contributes to the pursuit of justice by analysing evidence, compiling findings into affidavits, and providing expert testimony in court.

It’s this scientific evidence presented before the courts that strengthens criminal cases and assists prosecutors in holding perpetrators accountable.

Zwane has already demonstrated that a career in law enforcement can evolve in many directions, with her work recognising her as a community ‘shero’.
