Deputy Mayor thanks corporate support

Arbor breakfast shows off district's links with business

CHIEF Executive Officers (CEOs) from various Richards Bay corporates gathered on Friday to show their support for uThungulu municipal Deputy Mayor Thulani Mashaba’s Arbor Outreach Programme.

In welcoming guests at the Protea Waterfront Hotel, uThungulu Municipal Manager Mandla Nkosi said the numerous social responsibility initiatives spearheaded by Mashaba is ‘only the beginning of things to come’.

‘We must all put our hands together to make this country what people aspire for it to be,’ said Nkosi.

‘And ultimately, we want you, the stakeholders, to see what your money has contributed to.’

Mashaba also thanked the business figures who have assisted in uplifting the district municipality.

‘I know that budgets never seem to be enough, both in the corporate social investments (CSIs) and in government alike, but I hope we can improve by planning together to better utilise the title resources we have in our district,’ he said.

‘As we celebrated Arbor Day on Sunday and are still in Arbor Month, I believe everyone has played his or her part to highlight the essential role trees play in sustainable development and the livelihoods of people and their environment – now and for the future,’ said Mashaba.

Once the event ended, Mashaba and entourage left for Dlemudlemu High School in the Sokhulu area to address scholars, open a sponsored computer lab and participate in planting 19 trees in honour of Arbor Week.
