Couple gets engaged via a ZO advertisement

Just ask Pretoria visitor Shaun Pieterse (29), who proposed marriage to his sweetheart Nadia Stroebel (28) in a bold advert placed in our Monday edition this week.

‘We have known each other 11 years and while we are here on holiday visiting family in Richards Bay, I felt the time was right.’

Shaun romantically declared his love on paper for all the world to see and all that was needed was the right moment to surprise his unsuspecting soul-mate.

‘We had arranged a special champagne breakfast for my father’s birthday and during that time, my aunt said someone had mentioned that there was a photo of us in the paper, taken at the ski-boat club.

‘We sent for a newspaper and began paging slowly through it.

‘Nadia was totally caught unawares and soon tears of happiness flowed and the champagne was used for a new toast.’

Shaun says Nadia is still trying to absorb it all, but thankfully it was a resounding ‘yes!’ and they will return to Pretoria to plan the next moves.

He’s not sure when the wedding day will be, but we can be certain of one thing: this time it won’t be a surprise for her.
