Councillor lists achievements for 2013

The City of uMhlathuze’s Ward 1 committee ticks off goals and looks forward to the future

FROM additional stop streets and a new sewage system to various initiatives uplifting the Mzingazi Village community, the City of uMhlathuze’s Ward One committee ticked off goals achieved last year.

Meerensee and Mzingazi’s Ward Councillor Frik Bosman said the committee prioritised safer streets for its residents by repairing potholes, repainting road markings in Dune Road, Anglers Rod and John Ross as well as providing more stop streets and speed humps in Dune Road.

The first phase of construction for a new waterborne sewage system for the Mzingazi Village was also completed.

‘Residents without electricity in Mzingazi were listed and a programme was received to provide them with power,’ said Bosman.

The refuse recycling site in Meerensee was fenced off last year and layouts for residential developments on school, substation and public open space sites were completed.

Bosman said there were also generous donations made, such as 100 school desks handed over to the Sitholinhlanhla Primary School and Lizwi Secondary School and equipment for the Isiphiwo Crèche.

‘The Department of Health started a monthly mobile clinic at the Mandosi Crèche and we’ve seen a positive response from SAPO (South African Post Office) to establish a Post Office in Mazingazi,’ Bosman said.

Bosman added that a men’s forum was successfully launched in July 2013 and a Tranportation Committee was elected in August 2013.’
