POLICE are investigating the cause of a bus accident where 64 passengers were injured on their way to work this morning.
Medics responded to a bus accident on the R68, between Vryheid and Paulpietersburg, this morning (Wednesday).
‘Several ambulances, a patient transport bus and an advanced life support paramedic from KZN EMS were dispatched to the accident,’ said Robert McKenzie from KZN Emergency Medical Services.
Local emergency services and private ambulance services in the area also responded to the accident.
McKenzie said, when the first responding paramedics arrived on scene they triaged and counted the 64 patients on scene and started treating the patients for the various injuries that they sustained during the accident.
Eleven of the patients sustained serious injuries and the remaining patients sustained minor injuries.
The patients were treated on scene by the paramedics before being transported to Dumbe and Vryheid hospitals for continued care.
‘Due to the number of patients the patient transport bus even had to make a return trip to the scene to transport all the patients to hospital,’ he said.
