Anglers support charity

Marlin catch distributed to charity

THE crew of the skiboat ‘Addicted’ landed two marlin in two days, and shared their good fortune by donating one fish to charity.

Having boated one on Sunday, skipper Marius Botha took the crew out again on Monday and Schalk van der Merwe’s luck was in when he struck a super Blue marlin that stopped the scales at 221kg at the Richards Bay Ski Boat Club.

‘We would have preferred to release the fish back into the ocean but unfortunately they were already dead by the time they were landed,’ said Marius.

Via RBSBC Commodore, Gerrie Delport, the word went out that the fish would be donated to feed the hungry – a regular gesture during fishing competitions at the club.

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife officer Frans Mthembu speedily arranged a team of helpers to cut and fillet the fish which was then packaged for distribution to various places in need.
