Ngwelezana Hospital nurses upset about hostel sewage problem

NURSES of Ngwelezana Hospital were up in arms last week owing to a dreadful sewage stench at the nursing hostel.

A sewage overflow outside the hostel has been left unattended for more than four days.

The nurses raised concerns about the potential health risk.

‘If we are infected with any kind of illness from exposure to the sewage, it will have a ripple effect because we will transfer this to our patients,’ said an operational nurse who wished to remain anonymous.

Ngwelezana Hospital Public Relations Officer Thobile Hadebe said the issue has been resolved.

‘As soon as the problem was reported to the management of the hospital, the matter was treated as an emergency and a company appointed to rectify the situation.

‘An investigation on why it took so long is underway,’ said Hadebe.
