DESPITE its few members, Round Table uMhlathuze 261 has posted a tremendous report on its activities the past 12 months.
Richards Stone, stand-in chairman last year and continuing in 2014, presented an impressive list of achievements at the annual induction function held at Don Carlos restaurant on the waterfront on Saturday evening.
‘It’s been another whopping year, with a phenomenal R2 357 250 being raised through our various projects,’ said Stone.
‘The majority of this came from a donation of 3 500 pairs of shoes worth R2.3-million and which only cost us R4 500 to land and distribute.
‘They were sourced by Comrades’ runner Christophe Verhaeghe, a Round Tabler from Belgium, who responded to our request for shoes in no uncertain manner.
‘Other large amounts came from our annual golf day, which netted R38 840 and Bandana Day, which brought in R18 250, up 300% on last year.
‘We also received a donation of R22 000 from Soripimist International for the Izulu Orphans Project Phase 2 construction, which will begin soon.’
Numerous donations were made during the year to beneficiaries such as Zululand Homes for the Aged, while support was given to Arboretum Primary Feeding Scheme, DICE, Quintin Harris Fundraiser, Thuthukani, Jabulani Disabled Home and others.
Making it a family achievement, Boela Bekker was named Tabler of the Year while his wife Tanya was voted Leg of the Year.
The couple also took the Fellowship Award.
Other awards went to: Carlos Ehlers – Nose to the Grindstone; Johan Herselman – Stirrer Spoon; Boela Bekker – Stopcock Award; Tiaan Davel – NUF Travel Award.
The incoming RT261 Council was also named: Chairman and Welfare – Richard Stone; Vice-Chairman and Treasurer – Carlos Ehlers; Secretary – Herman Klemp; Fellowship Convener – Boela Bekker.
