AFTER delays associated with the supply chain management processes, repair work is due to begin on the pothole-riddled roads in the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi game reserve.
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife CEO, Dr Bandile Mkhize announced in July last year that R26-million had been budgeted for the road renovation, which had been scheduled to begin in September.
‘The tender in fact closed on 21 January 2014, calling for all the roads from the Memorial Gate to Mpila resort to be patched and overlaid with a single seal chip and spray,’ said a spokesman.
‘Some sections will have to be totally rehabilitated, and drainage will also have to be upgraded.’
The name of the successful tender bidder has not yet been made known.
Ezemvelo said work will start ‘soon’ – and it can’t be too soon for the many disappointed game viewers who have complained through the Zululand Observer.
Vehicle damage has been regularly reported and visitor numbers have declined as guests are forced to concentrate more on evading potholes than on watching game.
