ELVIS Nyathela has been appointed the North Tugela(Zululand) District Manager in the Richards Bay office of NCT Forestry Co-operative from 1 January.
He took over the reigns from Francois Badenhorst.
The district has between 250 and 280 active growers including small scale timber growers.
Elvis has a wealth of forestry experience having been a forester at (Mondi and NECF) in the Ugie area and he was also estate manager at Singisi Forest.
He was involved in forestry activities such as Silviculture, harvesting and fire protection operations.
He was then exposed to marketing, procurement and co-ordinating functions with TWK before joining NCT in 2009.
Besides his basic Diploma in Forestry, obtained from Saasveld Campus of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, he has also completed a B.Tech degree and is presently doing a final year, B.Com Marketing degree through Unisa.
While Elvis may be more involved in the office, he still has the growers at heart.
He committed himself to continue working together with the growers by encouraging them to practice forestry through good environment-friendly and sustainable methods which have financial benefit to both parties, the grower and NCT.
He said, ‘Workshops and field days are an important aspect of our engagement with the growers and this will continue.
‘Seedlings through the project regeneration programme will also continue to assist growers in obtaining new seedlings.’
