Municipality signs land agreement with church

United Congregational Church donates land to KwaDukuza

KWADUKUZA Mayor Ricardo Mthembu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Congregational Church (UCC) in Groutville, which formalises the transfer of a portion of land owned by UCC to the municipality.

The donated portion will be used for the construction of a tar road linking the Charlottedale community to the R102 in Groutville.

This forms part of government’s plans to build a 24-hour clinic in Groutville and the road will give access to the Charlotteville community to healthcare at the clinic.

The church says its decision is part of fulfilling its vision to improve the lives of people in Groutville.

On Sunday, Mayor Mthembu attended a full church service with members of Glebe, a decision-making body that was set up by the UCC to make decisions about, among others, land management, allocation and distribution.

Mayor Mthembu said he was more than happy to have established a relationship with an organisation that understands the needs and interests of its community.

‘We are touched by the scale of land that was donated to government in the name of generosity. We are now connected and working together to deliver more services to these communities.

‘I have said this so many times. We are willing to work with anyone on any idea to create and promote better standards of living for all.’
