Awesome Beetle restored by dad
She bats her eye-lashes as she pulls up to the traffic lights.

‘MY car is awesome!’ is how Richards Bay’s Deme le Roux describes the Beetle her father built for her.
In bright metallic blue and with long black ‘eyelashes’ on the headlights, the car is unique and impossible to ignore.
Gert le Roux drove VW Beetles when he was young and wanted Deme to also experience ‘bug fever’.
That prompted him to buy two Beetles and to use their best parts to build up one special car.
Zululand’s Beetle fundi, Oom Frank van der Merwe, offered expert advice on reconditioning the engine and other important changes necessary to get the car in perfect shape.
The block was about the only part of the 1 600 twin-port engine which was kept.
Some parts had to be imported from Brazil where Beetles are still as popular as tequila – to this day.
Gert enjoyed working on the car so much that he would have probably still been busy if Deme didn’t give him a deadline – her 20th birthday.
The car was finished in time and is now sporting front disc brakes, bucket seats, stereo and rear park sensors.
Deme said she loves her car and so do her friends.
She has even gone to Durban in it, with her father’s love and dedication as guarantee that her Beetle will run smoothly.
