Quitting a bad habit to create awareness

Support SA National Council of Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) Week.

THE challenge to quit one habit for one week is underway as 23-27 June commemorates South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) week, the Zululand SANCA Association has rallied to put locals to the test.

SANCA Director Shireen Sahadev said the week was aimed at creating awareness and calling the community to action to eradicate substance abuse.

‘We want to let people know about the dangers associated with the abuse of drugs and alcohol. Also to inform them that SANCA is available should anyone require our services – we also have a satellite office in Nkandla,’ she said.

‘We challenge the community to give up a bad habit for one week whether it is sugar, tea, coffee, even smoking. This will create consciousness of the difficulty in changing life style.’

As SANCA week coincides with International Day against Drug Abuse and Trafficking the association hopes to highlight the increasing problem of drug abuse, the stigma attached to those who are dependent on the use of substances and how the disease of addiction can be treated.

‘SANCA is in need of funding, and we are thankful to our sponsors for this week’s awareness campaign. Tow-In Services Kenny Sloane and Marvin Panel beaters and Towing Rueben Govender have been very helpful. Also, Kevin Sukreben on behalf of EMRS for arranging the wreck for SANCA,’ said Sahadev.

SANCA will be hosting their fun walk on 30 August. For more information or to assist contact 035 7723290
