KZN conservation authority confirms lion escape in Zululand region

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife urges community to report sightings of escaped lion to nearest police station

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife has appealed to members of the public to report any wild animal sightings to their nearest police station.

This appeal comes after a lion was spotted roaming on the R66, which runs between Nongoma and Pongola, on Sunday evening.

Ezemvelo spokesperson Musa Mntambo said the nature conservation body was aware of the sighting.

“We can confirm that the sighting was real. However, it is not from any of Ezemvelo’s protected areas,” said Mntambo, adding that it likely escaped from a nearby private game reserve.
