DISPLAYING the true spirit of ‘Ubuntu’, Amangwe Village together with the Oshashweni Patient Support Group rallied to change the living conditions of a 65-year-old wheel-chair bound Ncuthsini man.
Mandlenkosi Dube, who had been living in a dilapidated shack, had suffered a stroke and has been struggling to get by.
Home-based Care Coordinator, Amose Mtshali met Dube during a visit to the patient support group.
Feeling compelled to assist, Mtshali approached Mfolozi Municipality Ward Counsellor Mthoko Thusi, who ensured that Dube receive a RDP house.
Considering Dube’s plight, Rotary Richards Bay donated a wheelchair, Ethembeni Care Centre a bed and Amangwe Village handed over clothing, blankets and food.
‘Oshashweni Patient Support Group and the Amangwe Village home-based carer cleaned the house and yard, hung curtains, washed his clothes, prepared a meal and gave him much needed medical care,’ said Amangwe Village Manager Erna Steynberg.
The group now visit Dube weekly to ensure that he is well taken care of.
However, Dube is still in need of several other household items to make life easier.
