Cattle still cruising on busy roads

Birdswood, Meerensee and Alton are the main areas faced with wandering cattle.

MANY of Zululand’s businesses and residents are at their wits end, having to deal with wandering cattle in the different residential and industrial areas.

Recently there’s been an increase in the number of roaming animals in the vicinity, which results in them either causing vehicle accidents or destroying people’s lawns and gardens.

The Alton industrial area in Richards Bay is just one of the locations slowly being taken over by the wandering bovines.

One of the many residents who constantly have to deal with this dilemma, Sias van Schalkwyk.

‘Animals do not belong in an industrial area. They cause traffic problems and accidents. We have by-laws to deal with these issues,’ he said.

A representative at Barloworld depot shared the sentiment and drew attention to the fact that the herd boys are never seen.

CRG Security Group Manager, Sibusiso Mabika, said the company encounters countless complaints regarding the problem of stray animals.

‘Birdswood, Meerensee and Alton are the main areas faced with this problem.

‘We do respond to calls of this nature and try our best to fix the problem,’ he said.

Residents are up in arms and want the municipality to intervene, however the municipal spokesperson was unavailable for comment at the time of going to print.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
