Zululand unites against xenophobia

Masses pledge against xenophobia in Richards Bay.

IN an effort to maintain peace, Zululanders presented a united front and pledged against the country’s current xenophobic attacks at Audi Centre in Richards Bay on Saturday.

They signed against intolerance, intimidation and the outbreak of violence in the country.

This was also in an effort to prevent any threat of the eruption from spreading into peaceful Zululand communities, following numerous gruesome reports of violence in other parts of KZN.

The campaign was apparently recommended by local businessman and philanthropist, Ishwar Ramlutchman through the uMhlathuze Tourism Organisation (CTO).

It was supported by various businesses such as Mrs Zululand, Audi, BMK Partners and 21st Century.

CTO representative, Mpendulo Mbulawa, said the initiative was to remind communities about the spirit of Ubuntu.

‘This is not just about signing a pledge, but it is to show unity and put a stop to xenophobia. We need to remind each other that we are a giving and loving nation,’ he said.

As part the movement, Miss South Africa top 5 finalist, Sihle Makhanya, delivered her message of support.

‘We have to try our best to avoid this from moving into our area. We need to send a united message that we are against the attacks on our foreign brothers and sisters. We are all equal, and we were not raised this way. We are all Africans and we need to respect, love and tolerate each other,’ said Makhanya.
