And the blankets keep coming…

Rhinos handed over 85 knitted squares towards the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative last night.

RHINOS coach Riaan Pienaar and his troops traded rugby balls and boots for crochet needles and wool when getting behind the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative.

The squad handed over 85 knitted squares on Tuesday evening to Zululand Ambassador Dee Bevan at Mick Kelly Park, bettering the Sharks contribution to the cause.

The players will be donating more later in the month.

Earlier in the day, 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day sent blankets from all over the country to the Union Buildings in Pretoria in the hopes of breaking the Guinness Book of Records for the largest crochet and knitted blankets.

Zululand dispatched 35 blankets.

After the measuring was done, the record was smashed three-fold. A total of 3 133 square meters of blanket was measured.

All blankets were sent back to their organisations, who will hand them out to underprivileged people with winter approaching.

Zululand will donate the blankets to DICE.

The Rhinos have challenge the Richards Bay Rugby Club to match or better their efforts.
