Go-cart accident shreds 3-year old’s leg
Dujaan Dunn's leg was mangled between the steel base of the go-cart and the gravel track and was dragged for almost 20 metres.

A HORROR go-kart accident almost tore off the leg of a three-year-old boy in the Richards Bay CBD on Saturday.
‘I just saw a big hole with blood gushing out and my boy was screaming. It was shocking beyond words.’
These were the words of Judith Dunn, a Mrs Zululand Finalist and teacher, after the trauma of the family outing to ‘Let’s go Karting’.
Her son Dujaan’s leg was mangled between the steel base of the go-cart and the gravel track and was dragged for almost 20 metres.
Judith spoke from Netcare The Bay Hospital where Dujaan is scheduled for plastic surgery, following his first operation on Sunday.
‘His leg could have been severed. It is an open wound fracture and there is virtually no skin nor tissue left.
‘He went into theatre on Sunday to reattach the tendons, but the surgeon says there is nothing left with which to close up the wound.
‘They will have to do skin grafts and wherever they harvest the skin from, will possibly also leave a dent.’
Judith and her husband Neil, were riding go-carts with side carts attached, each carrying a child, but the fun did not last.
The incident followed aborted rides on other go-karts and a serious burn from a hot engine.
Neil then rode on a single cart, with Dujaan sitting between his legs.
As the cart picked up momentum, disaster struck as Dujaan moved forward and slipped his foot through the gap.
His screams were drowned out by the noise of the engine and Neil’s helmet.
According to Judith, the two attendants were also facing in the opposite direction, talking.
Once aware of the situation, Neil attempted to stop but drove into the tyre barrier, screaming for help.
He manage to lift the cart and tried to pull the boy’s leg out, but it was jammed.
Dujaan was finally freed and taken to hospital by ambulance.
The owner of ‘Let’s go Karting’ on Monday promised a response but at the time of going to print, none had been received.
