Car dragged by truck on John Ross Parkway this morning.

THE seriously injured driver of a car was extricated by rescue workers using the ‘jaws of life’ after crashing into a truck at the N2 intersection on the John Ross Parkway early this morning.

The car, which was wedged under the truck, was dragged about 30 metres before coming to a stop.

The accident occurred shortly after 5am.

The car was travelling from Empangeni towards Richards Bay and the fully laden articulated truck was turning right onto the N2 from the opposite direction, heading northwards to Pongola en route to Pretoria.

uMhlathuze Fire & Rescue, traffic officials, SAPS members and a number of ambulance crews were quickly on scene.

Shocked truck driver, Johannes Kekana said he had not even seen the car approach.

‘I was well through the turn when I felt the hit.

‘I feel terrible about the poor man in the car.

‘I have been driving trucks for 30 years without an accident and I just hope he will be okay.

‘My thoughts are with him and his loved ones.’
