Neighbourly touch for unkempt home

Neighbours clean State-owned home in Arboretum.

TIRED of driving past an unsightly, overgrown garden and unkempt house, residents of a Richards Bay street gave up their Freedom Day for a massive clean-up operation.

The State-owned house at 20 Quibeba in Arboretum has been unoccupied for some time and has been vandalised inside and out.

Neighbours, including members of the Community Policing Forum, decided it was time to take matters into their own hands and arranged a work party on the public holiday.

The army of cleaners arrived with lawn mowers, weed eaters, spades and rakes and soon got their hands dirty restoring some pride to the home and the neighbourhood.

‘Instead of complaining, we decided to do something about it,’ said Tienie van Rooyen.

The good news is that the SAPS, via the Department of Public Works, has identified a member who will soon take occupation of the house.
