No action on sewage problem

Sewage flows freely through a storm water culvert that runs between Mack and North roads in Empangeni.

SEWAGE is flowing freely through a storm water culvert that runs between Mack and North roads in the lower CBD area of Empangeni.

Despite numerous requests for action from Ward 23 Councillor André de Lange, his correspondence to the municipality has been met with silence.

During a visit to the area with Cllr de Lange, the origin of the leak could not be ascertained owing to the inaccessibility to the terrain because of the scrub and trees growing around the culverts.

Cllr de Lange addressed letters to the City’s Municipal Manager two weeks ago, but has so far received no response and the sewage is still flowing.

‘It is troubling because the culverts run quite close to a residential block of flats,’ said De Lange.

Further correspondence also referred to electrical sub station boxes which were not locked and drain covers which were broken and posing potential hazards to pedestrians.
