Crossroads Teen Centre call for help

The Crossroads Teen Centre is appealing to community members and local businesses to assist in the replacement of their main server.

THE Crossroads Teen Centre is appealing to community members and local businesses to assist in the replacement of their main server.

This comes after an increased demand for computer facilities owing to a higher pupil attendance this year.

The increase in pupils has been a great development for the centre, however is putting strain on the requirements needed to accommodate the many new faces.

The problems regarding the server come after months of hassles with the small computer room, which houses six computers and is accommodating more than 30 pupils daily.

With the computers being utilised by pupils for school projects and matric assignments, an expansion of the computer room, which will see an additional six computers being added, was proposed earlier this year. But this exciting project cannot be completed owing to the malfunctioning server.

‘We recently received a large donation, but require additional funds to complete the server replacement,’ said Operations Manager Desire Laatz.

‘This means a lot to us because these computers are utilised by pupils who have no access to computers or internet at home.’

To meet the budget for the server replacement alone, the centre requires an additional R4 000.

‘We need to insure the server is replaced before any other developments,’ said Programme Manager Bennie Mthembu.

To get a head start, Desire has confirmed a number of fund raisers that are set to take place.
