Medical waste dumped near Hluhluwe

The KZN Department of Health says it is investigating the pile of medical waste dumped in the open on the grounds of Mseleni District Hospital.

MEDICAL waste has been dumped in the open on the grounds of Mseleni District Hospital near Hluhluwe, creating an obvious health hazard.

When a local resident visited Mseleni Hospital with a friend, he was shocked to see many bags of medical waste piled up under a tree in the vicinity of the hospital’s mortuary.

‘We arrived at the hospital just after 1pm last Saturday and the bags were still there after 3pm when we left,’ said the resident.

‘I could see from the contents that the bags contained medical waste and a yellow container was full of used syringes’.

Mseleni Hospital’s Public Relations Officer forwarded the complaint to the provincial Department of Health, whose spokesperson Agiza Hlongwane said the matter will be investigated.
