Teacher disappears with students’ tuition fees
A teacher allegedly pretended to be working through the Love Life organisation when she recruited 80 students to embark on a 3-month tertiary courses.
RESIDENTS of Khula Village near St Lucia are angry after an adult education teacher, allegedly employed by the Love Life organisation, made off with their tuition fees without issuing their certificates.
Each of the 80 students had paid the R240 tuition fee in full and had completed their courses, which included a basic computer and sport and recreation courses.
Out of pocket and without proof of qualification, the students are enraged that they can now not obtain work despite having the qualifications.
‘We are angry, but also scared to tell our parents that the money they paid for our courses has been stolen and we have nothing to show for it,’ said one of the students.
‘I was doing a computer course and I was hoping to get an office job afterwards,’ said another.
Wanting nothing more than to better their lives by entering the job market, these youngsters feel they were taken for a ride by an imposter who abused their trust.
While some students are local, others spent money on lodgings and groceries as they came all the way from Empangeni, Durban and Ingwavuma for the three-month course.
The teacher has not been seen or heard from since 25 April and assessments were supposed to have been conducted on 2 May.
The students are also worried the teacher may misuse the copies of their ID books they gave her prior to the course.
Love Life’s media officer could not be reached for comment, but according to the students the organisation told them the teacher was not registered with Love Life and no courses were offered outside the premises.
