New halls and electricity for Pongola communities
Pongola Municipality has set aside just over R3-million for the Magengeni Hall project.
IN a bid to provide services to all Pongola residents, Pongola Local Municipality recently electrified the Mavithi area while construction to Magengeni Hall is well underway.
Pongola Municipality has set aside just over R3-million for the Magengeni Hall project for which a quarter of the work has been done.
Once complete, Magengeni Hall will seat 400 people, meaning events of large proportions can be held in the new community hall.
The municipality expects work to be completed soon.
Meanwhile, Mama Eunice Nzuza is one of many residents in the Mavithi area who recently received electricity on their homesteads.
Although Nzuza is still on the low cost housing waiting list, her temporary house is now fully electrified, allowing her to have lights at night and charge her cellphone.
Nzuza is yet to buy electrical appliances but is looking forward to doing so.
Electricity has been a long time coming in Mavithi and communities are yet to enjoy water provision and appropriate sanitation facilities, which are the responsibility of the Zululand District Municipality.
