Wear a ribbon above your heart
Wear a Green Ribbon and work together to protect our children during Child Protection Week.
IF you are a champion for children and believe in working together to protect them, fighting tooth and nail for their rights and safety, tie the Green Ribbon to your heart and remember the most vulnerable and victimised members of society.
‘Working together to protect children’ is the national theme of Child Protection Week (CPW) which started on Monday and is symbolised by the Green Ribbon worn above the heart.
By wearing the ribbon, one joins forces with others who share a passion for children’s rights, are committed to conserve precious lives and bring hope where they have lost all by taking hands and forging a defence line against all forms of child abuse.
It is a token to victims and survivors of childhood trauma and abuse, that their communities are united in their support and recovery.
CPW is aimed at raising awareness and mobilising sectors and communities towards holistic development, care and protection of children.
The annual campaign is spearheaded by the Department of Social Development (DSD) because Government believes protecting children is everybody’s responsibility.
While Government cannot fight the onslaught on its own, a multi-sector response is required, calling up the non-governmental sector, faith-based institutions, traditional leadership, media, organised labour and civil society to tackle child abuse, neglect and exploitation.
