Family man loves life

Meet Thabani Mabika, the Clinical Technologist in nephrology at the Richards Bay Medical Institute.

IT’S a demanding job, heading a busy renal unit and dealing daily with patients whose lives are literally in your hands.

But for Thabani Mabika, Clinical Technologist in nephrology at the Richards Bay Medical Institute, the toil of the day is soon eclipsed by the warm welcome he gets from his wife, Happy and his ‘two beautiful angels’, Nondumiso and Lwandiswa.

Having gained a wealth of knowledge and experience at well-established renal centers such as Johannesburg General Hospital, Wits Donald Gordon Medical Center, National Renal Care and B Braun Avitum, he was offered a post at Ngwelezana hospital where he worked as Chief Clinical Technologist.

‘So my wealth totals 12 years of working in a field I am incredibly passionate about, as is our entire dedicated and well experienced team that is committed to the health of our patients

‘We specialize in total kidney disease management, where we don’t just offer dialysis, but Haemodiafiltration (HDF) for our chronic and acute kidney disease patients.

‘We also accommodate holiday patients who require dialysis while visiting the Zululand region.’

The ‘work hard, play hard’ ethic kicks in with Thabani also enjoy reading, listening to good music and watching soccer during his spare time.

‘I also do a lot of travelling, such as taking the kids to the beach, experiencing the wonders of nature by visiting game parks, and doing boat cruises once in a while,’ says the avid family man.
