uThungulu District host a group of budding film makers

THE Zulu Coast Film Office welcomed a group of budding filmmakers to the uThungulu District Municipality’s council chambers on Thursday.

With the intention of improving their movie making skills, these individuals were sponsored by government to attend a three-week course in Durban.

uThungulu District’s Senior Manager for Economic Development, Jabulo Nsuza, was glad to see the project’s progress and encouraged the students to take full advantage of it.

‘This event shows uThungulu’s commitment to the film industry. Film is the perfect opportunity to market the district and display what it has to offer.

‘Looking at the bigger picture, this training promotes job opportunities, economic development and overall growth.

‘This project also enables us to build internal capacity, and therefore we will be able to make use of the talent based in our region,’ he said.

It was also noted that an artist academy is in the pipeline for the district, and further discussions regarding the idea are planned to take place soon.

Also present at the event was KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission’s Chief Operating Officer, Jackie Motsepe, who provided the students with insight into what the board’s role entails, and how the organisation could be of assistance.
