Five survive John Ross smash

One of the women managed to call for help from her cellphone, however, emergency services had a hard time spotting the vehicle lodged down the embankment.

FIVE people are lucky to be alive after their bakkie rolled down an embankment along the John Ross Parkway on Saturday night.

Just after 6pm, the 37-year-old driver of the white Opel Corsa bakkie apparently lost control of the vehicle and ended up rolling down a steep bank near a small gully just after Banana City.

But despite the state of the twisted metal and debris on the scene, all passengers miraculously escaped with no critical injuries.

One of the women managed to call for help from her cellphone, however, emergency services had a hard time spotting the vehicle lodged down the embankment.

When the KZN Emergency Medical Services finally found them, the patients were rushed to hospital for further care.

‘I can’t believe they are all alive,’ said one of the medics. ‘They are very lucky indeed.’

The road was affected for a short while as towing services worked to retrieve the vehicle from the embankment.
