Living a purpose-driven life
The Richards Bay Prebyterian Church has welcomed a new Minister
SPREADING the good Word to members of the Presbyterian Church in Richards Bay is newly appointed Minister Zephney Kennedy.
After being in Richards Bay for the past two months, she considers both the place and its people to be ‘phenomenal’.
‘There is a sense of ‘help mekaar’ in this town.’
Before following her current career path, Kennedy taught maths and English in Cape Town for 26 years.
Aside from her Bachelor’s degree in education, her call to ministry in 2008 led to her pursuing a degree in theology.
‘In June 2012 I received my qualification and then did my in-service training at the church.
‘Life is a school and we never stop learning. The textbook doesn’t close when we leave school and university,’ she said.
The 57-year-old is passionate about serving God and feels humbled to minister to believers.
She confesses that no two days are the same, and that her schedule is under continuous change.
Kennedy believes the most rewarding part of her work is having the privilege of helping people know God’s presence.
Although her husband still lives in Cape Town, she has her son and dog (who she considers her other child) to keep her company.
‘I enjoy walking, reading and chatting to people. I am a people’s person.
‘I cannot cook though. My family takes care of that aspect,’ she said jokingly.
Her short-term goals involve starting up a silent contemplative prayer group for people from all churches.
