THE challenge to quit one bad habit for a week is underway as locals commemorate South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) week.
SANCA Zululand has rallied to put locals to the test as 21–27 June is aimed at creating awareness and calling the community to action to eradicate substance abuse.
It is imperative for people to know the dangers associated with the abuse of drugs and alcohol and that SANCA is available should anyone require their services.
SANCA Week also coincides with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Trafficking and hopes to highlight the increasing problem of drug abuse, how the addiction affects individuals and what one can do to win this battle.
The theme for this year is ‘Let’s develop our lives and communities and identities without drugs’.
Quitting one bad habit for a week will create consciousness of the difficulty in changing life style.
‘SANCA is very thankful to our sponsors for this week’s awareness campaign.
‘Tow-In Services, Alfa Panelbeaters and Marvic Panelbeaters and Towing’s Rueben Govender have been very helpful,’ said SANCA Director Shireen Sahadev.
Schools are also encouraged to take part in the challenge by decorating a tree in the area with yellow ribbons and material.
The objective is to show your support against substance abuse.
SANCA will be hosting their 9th annual Walk Away from Drugs on Saturday, 5 September.
