Missionaries come close to king of the jungle

Missions team's close encounter of the lion kind.

A LOCAL missions team, travelling into the heart of Dark Africa, survived flat tyres, an accident, some ratty roommates, an arrest, speeding fines and discovered how many missionaries can fit into a Jeep in under 30 seconds, after an encounter with the king of the jungle.

Seven missionaries of Throne Room Ministries International, returned last week after an African adventure out of the pages of a novel, joking that the lion they encountered was still giving thanks for his meal, when they made their hasty escape.

Apostle Peggy De La Rosa and the team of Missions for Africa, on Sunday gave feedback of their journey to Botswana, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, visiting 27 churches with supplies.

But the congregation roared with laughter, as all seven related their versions of the day they almost became history.

Driving through the Chobe National Park, in Botswana’s north eastern district, the angels on a mission encountered two flats and had to wait for help.

Tired from the long drive, they picnicked on the spot, catching an afternoon nap, all comfy with pillows and blankets.

Soon other motorists passed them with eyes as big as saucers, urging them to get back into the vehicles, because lions were spotted in the area.

‘Well, we have done the same route for the past seven years and never saw a lion, so we continued to take a nap,’ said De La Rosa.

More cars came by with the same warning, but the spiritual warriors had no fear and one even decided to practice rock slinging skills.

As the stone struck a tree, a fearsome, bloodcurdling roar, sliced the air.

In under a second, the mighty prayer warriors confessed, it was each man for himself.

‘We don’t know how we got into the car so fast, but we were in before he could say ‘Amen’.’
