Farouk aims to hit his target
Local guy shares why he enjoys doing the manliest hobbies.
MANY will deem Farouk Khan the ultimate man’s man.
By day, he is typically known as the Inventory Manager at the Meerensee PnP, where he has a hands-on approach in customer satisfaction.
But after work hours, the Richards Bay resident is more than happy to rough it up in a nearby bush.
‘I’m a cool, laid-back, no-nonsense guy. I’m easy going. More importantly, I enjoy helping others and like to see the next person happy.’
When he’s not controlling the store’s stock or prioritising customers’ needs, Farouk can be found bow-hunting, shooting, fishing and mastering the art of photography.
‘Our daily jobs are usually limited to being in uniform.
‘The great thing about these hobbies is they allow you to just chill with the boys in an open field somewhere.
‘It’s something different, especially in a place so small and where the variety of activities is limited,’ he said.
Farouk belongs to both the Zululand Bow-Hunting Club and the Richards Bay Sport Shooting Club, and recently participated in a shooting league competition down in Durban.
‘We normally head down to an outdoor shooting range. It has taught me the discipline of handling a firearm – how to use it safely, fast and accurately.
‘There’s something about being out there – being one with nature. The freedom is priceless.’
The 47-year-old, father of one, also admits to having skills in the kitchen and knows how to impress his guests with a lekker potjie.
‘According to my family, I really can cook,’ he says jokingly.
