Parties pay tribute to Mashaba

President Jacob Zuma to attend Mashaba's funeral

VARIOUS political parties have added their voices in sending messages of condolences to the family of ANC Regional Leader Thulani Mashaba.

Mashaba, who was also a Deputy Mayor for uThungulu District Municipality died last Thursday night, when his chauffeur-driven BMW X5 left the N2 and overturned at Ballito.

The IFP Leader in KZN Legislature, Blessed Gwala said his party was deeply shocked with the news of the untimely passing of Mashaba, who was one of the most humble leaders in uThungulu.

‘His sudden passing will leave a void in the political leadership in the uThungulu District where he worked hard to ensure that there is unity and political stability especially in the Musa Dladla Region, where he was the regional chairperson.

‘Mashaba represented a rare breed of leaders whose aspiration was to serve the people of uThungulu with all he had.’

The Leader and Publicity Officer for the National Freedom Party (NFP) in uMhlathuze Constituency, Lindani Zungu describes Mashaba’s death as great loss.

Respected leader

‘Cllr Thulani Mashaba was highly respected by fellow politicians, public, traditional leaders and in other sectors of our communities, such as the taxi industry. He was regarded as a principled, charismatic and visionary leader by anyone who ever engaged or worked with him.

‘His contributions and commitment towards changing the lives of other people irrespective of gender, race and age were many and varied. The NFP believes his contributions to the development of his community will not be forgotten.

‘We wish to express our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time, noting that Mashaba was a remarkable man.

‘Knowing him personally as we did for many years, we are well aware of the difference he made in the lives of many people, both here in the political field and in his private life. Many will miss him. May his soul rest in peace,’ said Zungu.

Meanwhile the ANC Musa Dladla Regional Secretary, Tholi Gwala has confirmed that the memorial service for the late Thulani Mashaba will be held on Wednesday, 15 July at 4pm at eSikhaleni College, and the funeral service will be held at KwaSokhulu on Sunday, and will be attended by among others the President of the ANC, Jacob Zuma.
