Scammer pretends to recruit soldiers

Police warn of latest scam that defrauds job seekers by promising work as a soldier

THE KwaMsane and Mtubatuba police are blowing the whistle on a new con emptying the pockets of unemployed Zululanders.

Both police stations have received numerous complaints from people who have paid money to an individual who claims to work for the 121 SA Infantry Battalion as a recruiter.

Unsuspecting individuals are offered jobs in the army after paying a fee using Spar’s Instant Money system.

‘There are no jobs advertised nor available at 121 Battalion,’ said KwaMsane SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe.

‘When jobs are available they are advertised.

‘People can go to the 121 Battalion charge office where application forms are issued and on completion may be brought back to the 121 Battalion recruitment office.

‘The Commanding Officer at 121 SAI Battalion wants to distance the unit from such scandalous activity and inform the public not to fall victim to this scam.’

Police urge all community members who have been conned in this scheme to immediately report their cases to the police for investigation.
