Close shave for bakkie passengers

Stranded passengers unscathed in Empangeni bus crash

A GROUP of migrants travelling from Mandeni to Maputo narrowly escaped injury when an Ikwezi bus smashed into their stationary bakkie on the N2 last night.

The accident happened in the vicinity of the two Engen filling stations.

According to one of the passengers they had stopped to change a flat tyre and posted someone to alert oncoming traffic about the stationary vehicle.

‘Despite this a bus veered to the left of the lane and ploughed into our vehicle,

‘We had to dive out of the way to escape harm,’

‘Luckily no one was injured as all the passengers had disembarked,’ said one passenger.

The shaken passengers had to spend the night next to the highway. They thanked the local police for staying with them the whole night to provide security.
