A life of blessings at iKhaya

Local orphanage iKhaya LikaBaba is ready for another jam-packed year

OUTINGS, activities, talks and volunteers added to the jam-packed 2015 at local orphanage iKhaya LikaBaba.

With exciting adventures filling the daily lives of the children who fill the halls of the ever growing home, every moment has been a life changing experience.

No stranger to iKhaya, coordinator Loressa Neale, who joined the team in March last year, has taken the reins and is highly involved with both staff and children.

Despite their tender ages and busy schedule, the children took part in a number of exciting events last year including the St Catherine’s open day, a visit from a French rugby team, a Christmas party hosted by the Zululand Businesswomen’s Association and much more.

Regular trips to the beach and the local R&B ranch were a perfect opportunity for the children to experience something new and exciting.

Apart from taking care of the children, the staff took part in social activities to fuel their networking, such as the LIV Village’s fifth year celebration and Women of Worth Lavish Tea.

Donations

To commemorate 67 Minutes for Nelson Mandela Day, Premier Foods, Umhlathuze Pharmacy, Spar, GAC Shipping and DA Ward 23 Empangeni donated a number of gifts, meals and staff pampering at iKhaya.

These were some of the many donations made to the orphanage over the year.

Lending some much needed helping hands, a number of international volunteers called iKhaya LikaBaba their home for many months as they took on the hearty challenge of carers, helpers and mentors for the children.

Creeping into their hearts and lives, the volunteers formed a strong bond with the children who were very sad to say their goodbyes at the end of their stay.

2016

Ready to take on the year, the team at iKhaya is excited to welcome many new faces after the Department of Social Development gave authorisation to increase their numbers from 15 to 20 children.

‘We are confident that with this amazing team of ladies, along with our social worker, house parents and caregivers that we prepared for this imminent season of growth which awaits the iKhaya Family,’ said Loressa Neale.
