Blood bank needs a boost

SANBS blood supply stock levels hit all time low

THE country’s blood stock is down to a 2.3 day supply and the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is calling on donors to visit their nearest blood centre or mobile clinic to help boost levels.

SANBS strives to have at least five to seven days of supply in hand and collect a minimum of 3 000 pints of blood per day.

Donors must be between the ages of 16 and 65 years, weigh more than 50kg, be in good health and live a sexually safe lifestyle.

They can visit the Richards Bay Blood Donor Centre at Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre or any of the mobile clinics listed below.

9 – Mondi, Richards Bay: 9am-3pm

10 – Empangeni Library: 10am-6pm

11 – Umfolozi College, eShowe: 9am-3pm

14 – 15 Unizulu, KwaDlangezwa campus: 9am-3pm

16 – Dover Farm School: 8am-1.30pm

17 – Tongaat Felixton Mill: 10am-3pm

18- Tronox Mine, Empangeni: 8am-1pm

22- RBCT: 9am-3pm

23- eShowe Methodist Church: 10am-6pm

24- Empangeni Garden Clinic: 10am-2pm

29- South32, Hillside: 9:30am-4pm

30- RBM: 10am-3pm

31- Benedictine Hospital: 10am-3pm
