Floating library booked for the Bay
The world’s largest floating book fair, is scheduled to dock at the Port of Richards Bay between 3 and 18 May.
THE Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating book fair, is scheduled to dock at the Port of Richards Bay between 3 and 18 May.
The ship, which holds more than 5 000 titles of books on subjects ranging from philosophy to science and Christianity, will begin her first ever visit to South Africa in Durban on 16 March and end in Cape Town in July.
Logos Hope, once a passenger car ferry, is double the size of the Doulos, her predecessor which visited South Africa in 2002 and 2005.
Her expanded size has allowed for a wider selection of books and a more comfortable visiting experience.
Access to the ship will cost just R5, and from the welcome area visitors will be treated to an international café, interactive displays with a short movie introducing the ship, and plenty of drinks and snacks on sale for the whole family.
Operated by GBA Ships, an international charitable orginisation in Germany, Logos Hope has visited close to 100 ports, welcomed 50 million visitors on board and sold more than 4.5 million books since 1970.
About 400 people from 50 different nations serve on the ship. When in port, the crew engages in ministry on board, at local churches and join humanitarian outreaches in partnership with local Christians.
Volunteers
The Logos Hope calls for local volunteers to engage in ministry alongside its crew, take part in mission training and join their discipleship programme.
In turn, volunteers will have the opportunity to share knowledge with others, interact with the ship’s diverse crew and visitors and gain firsthand experience about life on the ship.
Volunteers are only required to be 18 years or older, and be committed and involved in their local ministries.
